It is with the deepest sadness we announce that our featured chef in Chef’s Corner, Deb Whiting, was killed last night in a car accident.
We were thrilled to feature Finger Lakes Chef, Deb Whiting, in the July issue of Destinations Travel Magazine.
Sadly, we learned today that chef Deb lost her life last night in a tragic car accident, while she and her husband, David Whiting were driving home after visiting family and friends in Vermont.
The accident, occurred on the Thruway in Montezuma, Cayuga County. Deb’s husband apparently did not see a car in his blind spot while changing lanes. Both David and the other driver, an 18 year old from Onondaga County, sustained injuries.
According to the State police, the other driver’s car went off the road into the median and overturned and Whiting’s car drove off the right shoulder and hit a tree.
Chef Debra Whiting and her husband own Red Newt Winery and Bistro in Hector, Schuyler County, near Watkins Glen.
They are also co-owners in Finger Lakes Food Company.
Our hearts go out to her husband and family; we know she will be missed.
