TurkeyThe Grand Bazaar in Marmaris

Don't Miss it During Your Holidays in Turkey

Turkey is well known for its many quaint bazaars that symbolize the country's East-meets-West outlook. Nestled in the middle of bustling modern cities, these bazaars exist in a time-warp of sorts, with centuries old shops selling traditional handicrafts, spices, clothes, carpets, etc. Holidays in Turkey are not complete until you spend some time in a traditional Turkish bazaar, such as the Grand Bazaar in Marmaris, Spice Bazaar in Istanbul, etc.

Marmaris is one of Turkey's most popular tourist towns. A small village by the edge of the Mediterranean, Marmaris transforms every tourist season into a hub of activity. Some 300,000 to 400,000 tourists descend on the village each year. The Grand Bazaar in Marmaris remains one of the primary tourist attractions in the village.

The Grand Bazaar is a collection of over 1000 shops spread over a relatively small area. In the tradition of Turkish bazaars, the shops are arranged in narrow passageways and sell everything from spices and coffee to jewellery and teas. This is a virtual paradise for souvenir hunting tourists.

The Grand Bazaar will also delight gastronomes. Shops selling traditional Turkish cuisine abound throughout the bazaar. You can also sample the many spices, herbs, and dry fruits that have attracted tourists to Turkey for centuries.

Besides food, the Bazaar is also a great place for shopping. Prices are usually low and you can haggle down for even better bargains. The bazaar is known for its leather goods, carpets, and traditional outfits.

The Grand Bazaar in Marmaris is one of the many bazaars dotting Turkey. Other must-visit bazaars on holidays in Turkey include the Spice Bazaar and Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, bazaar in Antalya, and Izmir, etc. Istanbul's Spice Bazaar and Grand Bazaar are highly recommended. The former is a vast market of traditional spices and herbs and will surely delight any food lover. The latter is the largest covered market in the world, dating back to the 15th century and housing over 5000 shops. Far from sterile modern-day malls (which also abound in Istanbul), the Grand Bazaar offers a glimpse of the real Turkey.

Chaotic, noisy, delightful, affordable, Istanbul's Grand Bazaar is an experience to remember for any tourist. Traditional shops run by 10th generation owners are common. You can find virtually everything at the bazaar - spices, herbs, carpets, clothing, footwear, handicrafts, souvenirs, furniture, antiques, etc. This is also one of the best places in Turkey to go souvenir hunting. The market is frequented by both locals and tourists, which ensures that the prices remain cheap. Shopkeepers expect you to bargain and will usually quote an inflated price, so make sure that you haggle before buying anything.

The bazaars of Turkey are some of the country's most iconic tourist spots. Far from the cuisine, the monuments or the Mediterranean coast, it is the bazaars that give Turkey its unique character.

Maldives

Maldives

The Maldives offer a dazzling array of idyllic islands surrounded by turquoise waters, teaming with colorful marine life. To get great deals on holidays in the Maldives, try an impartial price comparison website that offers the best holiday packages. These sites give you the opportunity to compare holiday prices from various travel companies, without searching through each individual website. You can select various requirements, from time of travel, to your preferred airport of departure. It's also possible to book a hotel and flight separately, which can make more financial sense, depending on your destination.

If you travel when children are in school, you can save money visiting a child-friendly destination like Florida. This is because most families visit when children are off school, and holiday companies will struggle to fill their rooms at other times. However, the entertainment and parks will be just as enjoyable off-peak. The Sunshine State, as it is known, is a fabulous location for tourists of any age to let their hair down and enjoy hospitality USA-style.

Another way of getting a great deal on a luxury product, is to book last minute. The price of a cruise for two, in a far flung destination like Thailand, may be prohibitively expensive if you book through the conventional channels. However, at the last minute, tour operators will want to fill all available rooms on board, in order to maximize their profits. Use this to your advantage and save hundreds of dollars on the original price. Thailand is one of the most stunning destinations in the world, combining the excitement of a modern vibrant culture, with the wonders of the ancient world.

If it is possible to book up to nine or ten months ahead. This strategy can also get you the best deal possible on a holiday. Try this approach if you are planning to book a package deal. In this sector, companies have purchased hotels and flights in advance. In terms of financial security, the sooner they have holiday makers to fill these places, the better. Also, flying in the less popular midweek slots, can bag you a better deal to destinations like Ibiza. Ibiza is a beautiful Mediterranean island, surrounded by crystal seas rolling onto clean beaches. Although the nightlife is world renown, it's still possible to escape to a secluded spot and enjoy the peace of island life.
